Platformed by Kelsey Josund provides a captivating storey with beautiful world building and fascinating characters, every step of the process was a pleasant and unexpected surprise.
Silicon Valley in the 2030s looks much like Silicon Valley now, with misogynistic CEOs, contentious inequality politics, and businesses that are nearly a joke.
Sara joins the latest thing: an unnamed tech giant's quasi-utopian community, floating above the drowned land that was once Monterey, when she loses her job when her business fails and her house to California's periodic wildfires. Sara is isolated on the inside with a thousand curiously chosen strangers, shielded from the turbulence of failing nations and a changing climate by an all-powerful company. Everyone around her appears to be grateful, having been rescued from a life of gig work, college loans, and bad news, but she can't seem to find her thanks. As she learns more about her new home, she notices the flaws in its flawless exterior. She must choose between being watched and deceived by the anonymous algorithms that safeguard her or risk living a precarious existence outside the system for the next five years. She discovers that leaving may not even be an option.
I loved the unique concept first of all. The strong women character sketch is a big point on top of that. Also, This work expertly and honestly explores the ambiguous emotional, psychological, and spiritual responses of a young kid embedded in a social and natural setting that no longer supports the humans who must live within it, in addition to leading us through an interesting mystery.
This surely a recommendation for the person who is looking for a new plot of the story with constant pace and strong female character sketch. A weekend read for sure.
