Furey's War by T.W. Lawless & Kay Bell although it looking like a war diary by its first appearance this is something different in terms of war. The time was at the outset of WW2 when being engaged in the war was not the only sole thing that disturbed the social peace. The overt culture of some soldiers makes society a bad influence on human. The story is the diary of all those happenings.
Jack Furey in his 100th birthday while reminiscing about the times of WW2 mentioned that he welcomed the arrival of the Americans to set up an Air Force base near the new RAAF base outside town as Sergeant Furey of the Wangamba Police.
Despite his reservations about separating the black soldiers from the white soldiers' camp, Furey convinces the US colonel to work with local law enforcement.
However, with so many soldiers in the region, the town begins to shift. The trouble doesn't begin with a new American-only dance hall. The bodies begin to pile up amid rumours of prostitution, underage pregnancy, and backyard abortions. When the wife of a returning Australian soldier believes that a 'blackfella' murdered him in their house, Furey is determined to find out the facts, no matter how unwelcome his inquiries are by US brass and local dignitaries.
I prefer some facts and history related to some happening which help me to realise the incident vividly. This book is a good example of such a description where the author made the picture clear with his elaborate words and truth.
I recommend this book to everyone who has a keen interest in the era of WW2 and what happened in society at that time rather than just focusing on the main destructive war. A great read for sure.
Thank you, T.W. Lawless & Kay Bell for giving me the good opportunity to read this wonderful book of yours.📚✔️
