Interview With Author Shail Rajan

Name : Shail Rajan

About Author :
I was born in Ahmedabad and lived there as a little girl. I had a small group of friends who I used to play with, but we lost touch when my family moved to the US. Many years later, I reconnected with one of those friends and now we're married and have 3 children.

Author's Interview :

How long does it takes you to write a book?
I never start writing until I have imagined the entire story in my head. Once I do sit down to write it takes me about 3 months.

How old were you when you decided to become a writer ? and where did you get inspiration from?
I was in college when I decided that I wanted to become a writer - more for the goal of telling stories than to become a published author. That part of the dream came much later. I guess I was inspired by my love of reading, especially books that fully transport me into the lives of the characters. I enjoy different genres of fiction, but tend to stay away from most non-fiction.

Would you like to mention those people who supported your journey to become a writer?
My family has been my greatest support on my journey.

What else do you like besides writing?
I am an avid cook and all around foodie (inside scoop - I share recipes inspired by The Summer Breeze on my website!). I love to garden (especially growing vegetables) and do a lot of DIY building projects. I'm also the president of a non-profit organization.

What advice would you like to give to our new writers who have just stepped into this journey or are thinking of making a move?
I would give the type of advice my dad would give me - to try your hardest and go for it but be realistic. It takes a lot of time to write a book, a lot of courage to publish one, and then a lot of patience to watch it succeed.

How do you feel after writting? Does it make you more energize or exhausted?
Very energized! Especially when I'm deep into writing a descriptive passage - it's almost as if I'm living in the scene with the characters.

Do you read your book Reviews? How do you Deal with bad or good Reviews?
I read every one of my book reviews. So far, I haven't received any negative reviews! I suppose I'll take my own advice and "be realistic" about how I'll react when I get one (and I'm sure I will)!

What does literary success look like to you?
Literary success would be a major publishing deal and maybe even a TV series. But that's not the same as literary happiness. That I already have!

Would you like to give any special message to my blog readers?
Connecting with readers has been as gratifying to me as writing & publishing. I'd love to connect with more of you. You can find me on my website: https://www.shailrajan.com/
