A dog's day of summer is an interesting story of adventures of a happy big pup who encounters many situations and events. This is a profoundly thought-provoking and resonating read.
It's the summer of 1982, we follow a dog named Maggie. She is a Newfoundland/German shepherd mix who breaks the gate and escapes into faraway lands while chasing a deer.
These are her adventures of where she comes across people, both good and bad, with moments of happiness and sadness. It's a heartwarming story with beautifully penned narration that speaks volumes about being kind and compassionate towards animals.
It is a nightmare when our beloved pets run away from the safety of their home towards the unknown and dangerous world. They aren't "like" our family members, they are our family member. This story captures that emotion quite beautifully. I was pulled into the story as the author narrated the events. Being a dog lover myself, I could feel the intense sentiments that Dr. Fairbanks went through. One thing that the author made sure to convey is that kindness and compassion doesn't cost you anything. These animals need love as they too have feelings. They are happy when you feed food, pet them and show them not everybody is cruel and merciless. They feel pain and sorrows too. Maggie's adventures were filled with all of that. I really enjoyed reading this book.
This is a must read for the ardent dog lovers who know that the world would be so much better if everyone realises the power of love, care, kindness and affection.
