The Ghost of 5 Mile Creek by Payne Schanski and Kurt Hershey is a mixture of mystery and horror with lots of suspense and the gradual pace of the tale. The Ghost of Five Mile Creek is, at its heart, an unflinching and realistic take on growing up, with echoes of classic ‘80s films such as Stand by Me and The Breakfast Club.
JB, who is fifteen years old since committing a big mistake that has destroyed his career, has been suspended for six months, and his life now consists of going to school and coming straight home: no more basketball games or adventures with his friends. The word "fun" seems to have vanished from his vocabulary, and he's given up hope.
Until he learns about a legendary abandoned house deep inside the woods of Northern Michigan, in a secluded place called Five Mile Creek. The house is said to be haunted by the locals. JB, curious and fearless, gathers an erratic group of misfits to make the trip to the house on a chilly February night, even though he knows he's about to make the same life-altering mistake!
Isn't the plot interesting till now and if you want to know more about the ending and the happenings we need to read it? I like the creation of a moment of suspense by the orator through his storytelling. I loved the story being a twist in some way which I can't reveal without giving out spoilers.
Several central questions run through this humorous, informative, and profound book: Should we allow our pasts to haunt us? Is it possible that the harsh reality of death will help us make decisions on how we want to live our lives? Finally, are all errors truly "mistakes," or do they conceal anything sinister? I would like the mystery lovers to go through it to explore everything new inside it.
Thank you, Payne Schanski for giving me the good opportunity to read this wonderful book of yours.📚✔️
